Microcement is a composite coating developed using cement, water-based resins and additives. It is a great alternative to the solid cast concrete surfaces. The material is being applied by hand in layers which provides a strong bond to the substrate and also gives the microcement it’s unique look. A standard thickness for the finished microcement is 2-3mm. It is an ideal material for both exterior and interior applications: floors, walls and ceilings...and even worktops! The two main benefits for using microcement for your projects is that it is light and it does not require any joins! So, if you are after a seamless surface with a unique polished concrete look give us a call!
Our Microcement Application Process for Floors
Microcement is a seamless, highly durable decorative coating ideal for modern floors. Our expert multi-layered process ensures a robust, long-lasting, and aesthetically refined finish.
1. Surface Preparation
To ensure maximum adhesion and durability, we meticulously prepare the surface:
The substrate is thoroughly cleaned to remove dust, grease, or loose materials.
Cracks and imperfections are repaired with suitable fillers.
A specialized primer is applied based on the substrate type (concrete, tiles, or wood) to enhance bonding.
2. Mesh Reinforcement
A fiberglass mesh is placed across the entire floor surface before applying the first base coat.
This reinforcement helps prevent cracks and increases structural integrity.
3. First Base Coat Application
The first base layer of microcement is troweled over the mesh, fully embedding it within the coating.
Once dry, the surface is sanded to remove imperfections and ensure proper adhesion for the next layer.
4. Second Base Coat Application
A second base layer is applied, adding further strength and uniformity to the floor.
This layer is also sanded after drying for a smooth and even surface.
5. First Finishing Coat Application
A fine microcement finishing coat is applied to define the final texture and aesthetics.
Once dry, it is sanded to refine the surface.
6. Second Finishing Coat Application
A final finishing layer is applied, ensuring a polished, seamless look.
This layer is also sanded to perfection, achieving the desired smooth or slightly textured effect.
7. Sealing & Protection
A high-performance sealer is applied to protect the microcement from stains, water, and wear.
Available in matte, satin, or gloss finishes, the sealer enhances durability and aesthetics.
The surface is left to fully cure, ensuring long-term strength and resistance.
Our detailed and professional process guarantees a seamless, durable, and visually stunning microcement floor.
